Overview
This document provides both customers and suppliers with the information necessary to electronically exchange data and communicate with GKN. It outlines the hardware and software used at GKN and details the information necessary to exchange data.

Exchanging Data
GKN maintains a full, dedicated T1 connection to the Internet which is used for FTP file transfers and electronic mail.
To access the GKN FTP area you must obtain a User Name and Password from GKN Contracts. Contact Brenda Hooks at 334-283-9250. Private or sensitive data can be exchanged via FTP provided the files have been encrypted (GKN supports PGP Encryption).
Files may be exchanged in one of two ways:
1. A GKN employee may pull (get) a file from the FTP site
2. You may pull (get) a file from our FTP site To connect to GKN's FTP site:
GKN uses PGP to secure all file transfers via FTP. Any supplier or customer who wishes to exchange files with GKN over the Internet must obtain a copy of PGP.
PGP™ (Pretty Good Privacy™) is a public key encryption system available on several platforms including Windows, UNIX, and MS-DOS.
The original shareware version was released on the Internet in 1991 and is not licensed for commercial use. The shareware version of PGP is available from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). You can download this version from MIT's FTP site and use it for non commercial purposes.
If you use PGP to exchange files with GKN, you should obtain a commercial version of PGP. Click here for information on the PGP Business Edition. To purchase a copy of PGP for Commercial use, click here.
Note: GKN only supports the use of RSA keys. When generating keypairs, please be sure to use the RSA key type option, NOT the Diffie-Hellman/DSS option.
Download GKN's PGP Key GKN's PGP public key is available on our FTP Server (ftp.gknwa.com): /pub/pgpkey/gknwa.pubkey.asc
To register and certify your public key with GKN, please complete the PGP Public Key Registration/Certification Request .
By using email, ASCII data can be mail to any GKN employee. This method of exchange is appropriate for spreadsheets, project schedules, or other non-sensitive document. The transfer of Engineering data or any other sensitive or proprietary file via email is strictly forbidden.
