GKN's Information Technology group designs, develops, and supports a variety of business, engineering, and manufacturing systems. This group also provide local, wide area, and Internet network support. Development activities include client/server applications, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, and Internet/Intranet development. The group also supports and maintains manufacturing and financial systems and provide Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) links between these systems and customers.
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition
Dedicated computer systems control and monitor real-time process data from the GKN manufacturing floor. All process information is stored in a data warehouse and accessible to engineering, manufacturing, and quality. Intranet-based tools provide access to real-time or historical manufacturing data. The company is also developing a number of Internet-based tools which will provide customers with secure access to real-time or historical data.
